Short answer format: Belle is painting all sides of a jewelry box for her mother. The box is a rectangular?

prism that measures 12.5" x 18" x 3.75". She wants to cover the jewelry box with 3 coats of paint. One can of spray paint will cover 1.25 square feet. How many cans of spray paint will she need to purchase?Short answer format: Belle is painting all sides of a jewelry box for her mother. The box is a rectangular?The surface area of the box is:

2(12.5*18 + 12.5*3.75 + 18*3.75) = 678.75 (sq in)

For 3 coats of paint, you'll need to cover:

428.75* 3 = 2036.25 (sq in)

1.25 sqft = 1.25*12^2 = 180 (sq in)

She'll need:

1286.25 / 1.25 = 11.3125

or at least 12 cansShort answer format: Belle is painting all sides of a jewelry box for her mother. The box is a rectangular?Hi,

Not so sure about the "short answer" format, but here goes:

Formula for Surface Area of a Rectangular Box:

2AB + 2BC + 2AC

A = 3.75"

B = 12.5"

C = 18"

SA = 2AB +2BC + 2AC

= 2 (3.75)(12.5) + 2 (12.5)(18) + 2(3.75))(18)

SA = 93.75 +450 + 135

SA = 683.75 square inches

1 Square Foot = 144 square inches (12" x 12" = 144 square inches)

683.75 square inches/144 square inches = 4.75 square feet

SA = 4.75 square feet

If one can of spray paint covers 1.25 square feet, she will need to buy about 4 cans of paint,

since 4.75/1.25 = 3.8 cans.
